Making hygienic features a standard offering for air handling products

Fresh air ventilation, indoor air quality and hygiene are receiving ever-increasing recognition across the global building sector. Everyone deserves to breathe fresh, clean, and healthy air. We thus follow the principle that ventilation and air distribution products should be designed and offered with hygienic requirements in mind from the beginning.

When selecting a Systemair product that carries our #HygienicByDesign mark, it fulfils, at minimum, the following criteria. You don’t even have to ask for it.

VDI 6022-1 compliant materials, smooth surfaces

Product is constructed from VDI6022-1 compliant materials. Sharp edges are avoided, and the unit is made up of smooth surfaces which naturally prevent mould, dirt, bacteria, and other contaminants from building up.

Accessible, easy to clean

Inner parts of a product are easily accessible so that operators can clean and maintain them more thoroughly.

Coated materials, resistant to corrosion

External product surfaces and material coatings are corrosion resistant. This is especially crucial in industrial applications to ensure products function at their best during long periods of operation.

Hygiene-certified options

Product comes with acknowledged hygiene certifications as a selectable or configurable option.

Air Handling Units

  • Can be configured as Eurovent “Hygienic Air Handling Units” (HAHU) certified unit.

  • Contain plastic casing components in the airflow, all of which are ISO 846 compliant.

  • Come with a corrosion class of C4 or higher (according to ISO 12944).

  • Are hygiene conformity tested by a third-party institute in Germany for VDI 6022-1, DIN 1946-4 and other acknowledged standards.

Hygiene isn’t standard for all applications. But it should be.

Traditionally, the HVAC industry’s concept of “hygiene” refers to products that are certified for use in critical healthcare applications such as clean rooms and hospital operating theatres.

We believe that the term “hygienic” deserves rethinking as, by their definition, air handling products treating fresh or recirculated air are supposed to contribute to healthy indoor environments.

As a result, our #HygienicByDesign initiative is now setting new hygienic standards for the global HVAC industry.
