Fan Selection Guide for Residential Ventilation

Choosing the right residential fan depends on factors such as the building layout, required airflow, ductwork and noise requirements. The right fan type can help ensure effective ventilation while keeping energy use and sound levels under control.

Choosing the Right Fan Type

  • VEF EC (Ducted EC extract fans): Engineered for ducted extract ventilation in residential environments, including systems serving one or several wet rooms. EC motor technology enables efficient operation and stepless speed control.

  • VEF AC (Ducted AC extract fans): These units provide ducted extract ventilation in residential applications. AC motor technology offers a traditional solution with stepped speed control.

  • BEF series (Bathroom fans): A practical solution for localized extract ventilation in bathrooms, shower rooms, kitchens and other residential spaces. These fans are suitable for installation through external walls or with short duct runs.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Airflow requirements: Determine the required airflow for the room and application. Bathrooms, kitchens and utility spaces may have different ventilation requirements depending on the building and applicable regulations.

  • Ductwork and system resistance: Consider the length and design of the duct system, including bends and other components that create pressure losses. Ducted fans should be selected based on the required airflow and available pressure.

  • Sound levels: Check the fan's sound data at the intended operating point, particularly when the fan is installed close to bedrooms or other noise-sensitive areas.

  • Motor technology and control: EC motors can provide efficient operation and stepless speed control, while AC motor fans offer a traditional solution with stepped speed control.

  • Installation: Consider whether the application requires a ducted or decentralized solution, as well as the available installation space and connection requirements.
