Modern ventilation for car parks

Mechanical ventilation and smoke extraction are essential in enclosed underground and multi-storey car parks to ensure safety and air quality. Depending on the building type and garage size, specific requirements apply to both ventilation and smoke control systems.

In Germany, these requirements vary by federal state and are defined in the respective Garage Ordinance, the Special Building Ordinance or the VVTB (Administrative Regulation on Technical Building Regulations).

Jet fans reduce pollutans and costs

The aim of garage ventilation is to remove air contaminated with carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide from the garage and allow fresh air to flow in. A frequently used method is the installation of duct systems. However, these often cross other trades and generate a high pressure loss. Added to this are high investment and installation costs. A good alternative here is the use of our jet fans (also known as thrust fans).

When mechanically extracting smoke from garages, the aim is to make it easier for people still in the fire area to escape. In addition, the fire brigade is supported during smoke extraction and can advance to the source of the fire more easily.

High safety standards and energy efficiency

High safety standards and maximum energy efficiency – the Car Park Ventilation System from Systemair meets these requirements without compromise. Achieve up to 80% energy savings in Green Ventilation Mode* while benefiting from the reliability and expertise of a global system partner.

Triple Advantage

  • Low operating costs

  • Competitive investment costs

  • Full compliance with all legal requirements

Components

The Systemair Car Park Fan System eliminates the need for extensive ductwork within the garage, creating a more efficient and flexible ventilation concept. The use of additional supply air fans alongside exhaust air fans depends on the defined protection objectives and the required system functionality.

In addition to jet fans, Systemair offers axial supply air fans (AXC series) and temperature-resistant extract air fans available as axial or roof fans (AXC (B), AXC (F) or DVV series), all compliant with EN 12101-3.

To complete the solution, Systemair also supplies all necessary system components, including silencers, dampers and other ventilation elements required for a modern, fully integrated ventilation system.

Application areas and planning

The more precise the planning, the more effective the system. In addition to the size of the underground car park, parameters such as capacity utilisation, usage patterns and peak loads are factored into the design process. Ventilation is typically dimensioned based on the required air change rate – depending on pollutant levels – or a defined volume flow rate, which is then calculated in relation to the number of parking spaces.

By implementing a car park fan system, “dead zones” within the garage are effectively eliminated. In enclosed underground and multi-storey car parks, Systemair jet fans manage both daily demand-controlled ventilation and smoke extraction in the event of a fire.

Jet fan systems from Systemair are...

...Exceptionally efficient
Thanks to intelligent control technology, Systemair jet fan systems can reduce energy consumption by up to 80% compared to conventional ventilation systems*. Each control system is individually pre-programmed to match the specific requirements of your project.

It continuously analyses data from CO sensors as well as fire and smoke detectors, automatically managing the virtually defined smoke and CO zones according to demand. Jet fans in unaffected areas are operated in line with the predefined control matrix, ensuring efficient, targeted ventilation at all times.

...Extremely economical.
Jet fans – also referred to as thrust or induction fans – support the natural airflow between supply and extract zones, promote air movement in areas with low air velocity and ensure demand-controlled daily ventilation throughout the entire car park.

To unlock the full potential of the system and guarantee reliable performance in the event of an emergency, precise planning and perfectly coordinated interaction of all components are essential. From the initial design phase onwards, Systemair provides comprehensive support, tailoring the control system precisely to your building’s specific requirements and operating conditions.

Perfectly positioned for any challenge.

Space is a valuable asset in multi-storey and underground car parks, yet conventional duct systems often occupy a significant portion of the available ceiling area. In addition, they frequently interfere with other building services such as electrical and water installations – increasing both investment and installation costs.

Jet fan systems from Systemair eliminate the need for extensive ductwork. Installed only at selected points, jet fans require less than 0.5% of the ceiling area. This frees up space for other technical systems, creates a clearer layout within the parking decks and can even allow for reduced storey heights – saving both time and construction costs.

When you want to make more out of less space...

Different types of garages require different solutions for daily ventilation.

Whatever you are planning. We will support you with your project.

Exhaust air fans

To extract the required air volume from the car park and discharge it safely outside the building.

Control system

Controls all components of the system according to the corresponding scenario that has been triggered. Triggered e.g. by timer, CO warning system, manual smoke detector, fire brigade switch, fire alarm system, sprinkler system.

Frequency converter

Used when multiple operating points must be covered with a single fan.

CO sensor

Detects the CO content in the garage and triggers the ventilation of the garage via the control unit if required. The sensor is installed at a height of 1.5 metres to ensure reliable detection of the CO concentration in the occupied zone.

This results in needs-based and more economical ventilation. Different CO levels are also possible, for example to operate only the jet fans when the CO content is below 100 ppm.

Hand-held smoke detector

Smoke extraction can be started manually by breaking the window and pressing the button.

Warning banner

If there is an increased CO concentration in the garage, this flashes and honks to warn people in the garage.
