Powerhouse Drøbak is the first educational building in the powerhouse concept, designed by Snøhetta for the Drøbak Montessori Foundation. The design of the building comes from the energy concept, the qualities of the building site and the Montessori pedagogic approach.
High demands for cost efficient and energy efficient solutions has resulted in an energy demand ¼ of what is normal for other new school buildings. Energy efficient systems for climatization is key, and the building also produces its own electricity from solar panels.
The school is ventilated by a DVCompact unit with a capacity of 5 500 m3/h, designed for minimal energy usage. Energy efficient PM motors, combination battery and high efficiency rotary heat recovery with bypass function secures a SFPv value downwards of 0,66 kW/(m3/s).
