Eurovent Certified Performance for Residential Air Handling Units (RAHU)

Verified performance, trusted results – backed by third-party certification and stringent European performance standards

Eurovent Certification

At Systemair, we strongly believe in transparency, quality, and accountability. That’s why our residential air handling units such as our state-of-the-art SAVE range are certified under the Eurovent Certified Performance programme for Residential Air Handling Units (RAHU).

This certification gives HVAC professionals, planners, consultants, installers, and investors peace of mind that product performance is tested and verified by an independent third party.

It is also the only truly European certification programme, with stringent requirements that distinguish it from national compliance schemes and alternative certifications such as Passive House.

What is the Eurovent RAHU Certification?

Eurovent's certification programme for residential air handlers is the first European-wide certification scheme developed specifically for balanced residential ventilation systems with heat recovery – also known as Residential Ventilation Units (RVUs), Balanced Ventilation Units (BVUs), or simply RAHUs.

This certification covers:

  • Residential AHUs with supply and exhaust airflow

  • Heat recovery systems (plate, rotary, or heat-pump)

  • Units with nominal airflow up to 1,000 m³/h

It provides independently verified performance data following EN 13141-7 and ensures compliance with EU Ecodesign and Energy Labelling regulations.

Why it Matters

For specifiers, consultants, architects, and installers, Eurovent certification simplifies decision-making:

Accurate performance data

no guesswork, no over-specification

Verified energy efficiency

including Specific Power Input (SPI), Specific Energy Consumption (SEC), and temperature efficiency

Improved system design

better airflow balance, reliable performance, reduced acoustic impact

Different to all other certification programmes, which allow manufacturer submissions, products tested by Eurovent are anonymously purchased on the open market and tested in accredited laboratories to ISO 17025 standards, ensuring impartiality and real-world relevance.

Certified Characteristics

The RAHU certification includes rigorous verification of:

  • Airflow performance and pressure drop

  • Electrical consumption and Specific Power Input (SPI)

  • Heat recovery efficiency (temperature ratio or COP)

  • Specific Energy Consumption (SEC)

  • Sound power levels (dB(A))

  • Internal and external leakage classification

  • Cold climate performance

Systemair's SAVE units, for example, excel in all these criteria, delivering high performance, quiet operation, and energy-efficient ventilation for new and renovated buildings alike.

The Systemair Approach: Supporting a Common European Standard

Systemair fully supports and recommends the utilisation and specification of the Eurovent Certified Performance programme over alternative national or private certification schemes. Eurovent sets a Europe-wide level-playing field, ensuring fair competition, transparency, and consistency across markets.

By avoiding national protectionism and fragmented requirements, the Eurovent RAHU programme helps specifiers and consultants work across borders with confidence — using one harmonised set of independently verified criteria.
