Cooling the future of entertainment in Iraq

Hexacorp supplied Systemair solutions to Iraq’s largest tourism and commercial development, delivering tailored climate control for outdoor comfort and innovation.

Mall of Iraq, Iraq

Iconic riverside destination

This 650,000 m² riverside landmark will feature over 1,000 luxury stores and Iraq’s first giant dancing fountain.

Supporting tourism infrastructure

As Iraq’s largest tourism and entertainment project, it combines residential towers, cinemas, restaurants, and more in a single destination.

Efficient outdoor cooling

Systemair is equipping the outdoor terraces with 116 Geniox fresh air handling units to deliver efficient cooling in front of the Middle East’s largest screen.

Meeting strict timelines

Meeting the client’s requirements was critical, with the added challenge of completing the entire order within a tight five-week manufacturing window.

A landmark on the Tigris

Set along the banks of the historic Tigris River, the Mall of Iraq is a monumental development that covers an area of 650,000 square metres and represents a new era of urban design in the country. Combining luxury retail, hospitality, entertainment, and leisure, the project is the fifth-largest commercial and entertainment destination in the Middle East, and the first of its kind in Iraq. At the heart of the development is a vast commercial complex housing more than 1,000 international brand outlets, expansive indoor gaming and cinema halls, green spaces, and a 23-storey residential and hotel tower.

Due to Iraq’s extremely hot climate, the owner of the largest shopping and entertainment complex in Iraq requested engineering advice to cool the outdoor seating areas of restaurants and cafes overlooking an open space which featred the largest display screen in the Middle East and a dancing fountain. This outdoor space is expected to host gatherings year-round and requires a robust, reliable cooling system capable of performing under high-traffic and high-temperature conditions.

Delivering comfort to outdoor spaces

Hexacorp was selected to provide a climate solution that would enhance the overall visitor experience in this critical outdoor area of the development. Drawing on its extensive expertise, particularly from the successful outdoor cooling project at Al-Kadhimiya Mosque, Hexacorp proposed using 100% fresh air with Geniox air handling units (AHUs), embarking on detailed studies and design refinements to effectively cool the outdoor terraces.

The proposal was made in close collaboration with Systemair, and included tailored recommendations on filtration and fan types, leveraging state-of-the-art Geniox technology. After a consultant factory visit, the solution was approved, and the full order of 116 ceiling-suspended Geniox units was confirmed. One of the most demanding aspects of the project was the tight delivery timeline: the entire production had to be completed within just five weeks.

In the end, Hexacorp successfully delivered Geniox AHUs from Systemair, all carefully configured for optimal performance and architectural integration. These units now ensure consistent cooling across the terraces, enhancing comfort and encouraging longer visitor engagement in the development’s outdoor entertainment spaces.

Redefining entertainment infrastructure

This project is more than just a commercial hub—it is a statement of Iraq’s resurgence and ambition. Systemair’s involvement reinforces the project's premium positioning and demonstrates how advanced HVAC technology can support large-scale public and private developments in extreme climates.

Through reliability, energy efficiency, and technical customisation, Hexacorp and Systemair have contributed to shaping a destination that’s poised to become a regional beacon for leisure, retail, and tourism.
