Ventilation and filtration systems for new healthcare facility in Lisbon, Portugal

Systemair installed advanced ventilation systems in CUF Tejo Hospital’s 11 operating rooms—including a custom-designed amphitheater-style room requiring CFD analysis—to ensure safe, efficient air filtration for patient care.

CUF Tejo Hospital, Portugal

Part of the José Mello group, the CUF Tejo Hospital in Lisbon opened in September 2020. In its 11 operating rooms safe, efficient air filtration is critical to patient health and recovery. Based on its long experience and know-how in the healthcare sector, Systemair was chosen to install ventilation systems.

The customer requested that one of the operating rooms should be designed like an amphitheater to allow university students to watch the surgical procedures from an elevated position. This involved a CFD analysis of the air distribution in the room.

CFD analysis

The volume and geometry of the amphitheatre- style room demanded a CFD analysis of the air distribution in the room. Also, the velocity profile of the air coming out of the ceiling. Systemair was responsible for the CFD analysis, as well as the resulting successful design adaptation to ensure the efficiency of the ventilation inside the room.

Leak test validation

Systemair was responsible for the leak test validation of all 11 ISO 5 operating rooms.

Work continued during pandemic

Systemair performed all the testing, validation and start-ups during the pandemic period, from June to December 2020. As a result, the opening was only delayed by about 8 months.

Maintenance contract

Systemair was awarded an ongoing maintenance contract for the condenserless chillers and remote condensers.
