Powerhouse Brattørkaia is the largest energy positive building in Norway. In its lifetime the building will produce more energy than has been consumed during production of building materials, construction, operation and demolition.
The building is designed by Snøhetta, and combines modern, functional architecture, very low energy demands, self produced energy and good indoor climate – by utilizing top of the line energy efficient ventilation solutions. Good ventilation for achieving a good indoor environment has been a key success factor in the project
Systemair has delivered the air handling units to the building – in total 13 DVCompact units of varying sizes. In addition, Systemair has delivered a complete ventilation solution for the underground parking garage, made up of 16 IV Smart EC CO fans with control system.
Smart, efficient ventilation is key
The air handling units play a central role in climatization of the building, as both heating and cooling is done via the ventilation systems. The ventilation principle is displacement based – therefor the heating must be done during the night by high air temperatures and accumulation of heat in exposed concrete. During the day the ventilation systems runs conventionally, while the concrete gives of the accumulated heat that is needed.
All the air handling units are equipped with combination batteries, recirculation dampers and demand control air volumes. Very low system pressure, in combination with very energy efficient units, results in a calculated average SFPv between 0,9 and 0,5 kW/(m3/s), depending on the occupancy and resulting air volumes. Total capacity is 96 000 m3/h.
