Hotel l‘Arrivée, Dortmund, Germany
The hotel l’Arrivée is located at the green heart of Dortmund in the West of Germany. In the fifties the hotel was a youth hostel and later it was used as a base camp for professional cyclists.
Now it is a business hotel with event halls up to 300 persons and 1,000 square meters spa. The hotel hosted already different clubs of the German Soccer League as well as the best table tennis players of China and Hong Kong.
The concept of fire prevention of the hotel was implemented by two pressure differential systems of Systemair.

Challenges and features:
- The main task of a fire prevention concept is to keep evacuation routes free of smoke in case of emergency. In multi-storey buildings the stairways are the most common way of evacuation. Due to this the application of a pressure differential system is inevitable. The pressure differential system keeps stairs free of smoke by insertion of fresh air with pressurisation. Systemair installed two of these systems at hotel l’Arrivée to save the guests in case of fire. The complete solution includes integrated flap control, connections for smoke detectors, manual call points and a fire indicator panel.
- Systemair and the consultant developed an individual design of the pressure differential system. It was required to ventilate the stairs with an air volume of at least 10,000 m³ per hour. Moreover the pressurization at the stairways had to be 15 Pa in every operating condition. Additionally the maximum power to open a door in case of emergency must not exceed 100 Newton.
- Systemair installed a ventilation system with a fan of the type Multibox-EC and an electronic pressure regulation. Thereby all the requirements could be fulfilled and the system was accepted by the German Association for Technical Inspection without any complaints.
- All competitors of Systemair refused the request of such a system because of the difficult structural parameters.
